Family Support and Education Groups

The Gosnold Reaching Out program is a resource for family members and loved ones affected by addiction. It assists the family at all stages of addiction through education, intervention, and support.

Untreated chronic addiction causes severe stress within the family unit that can lead to significant health problems such as high blood pressure, weight loss or gain, anxiety, and insomnia. Feelings of anger, guilt, shame, and fear are all facets of addiction that impact the family unit.

An educated and supportive family has a positive impact on treatment outcomes. Family members receive support and guidance to manage the challenges of addiction and recovery.

Intervention Services

An Intervention is a structured and well-planned meeting between the addicted person and meaningful people in his or her life.  While the primary goal of an intervention is to motivate the addicted person to treatment, it also leads to positive results for family and friends.

With the help of a Gosnold certified interventionist, family and friends present their concerns in a caring and non-judgmental manner to the loved one who is suffering. The addicted person needs objective feedback about their addiction, and an intervention is a safe and compassionate option. A person does not have to “hit bottom” or “lose everything” before getting help.

A skilled professional can motivate an addicted person toward treatment at any stage of the illness. With any chronic illness, early identification and intervention can significantly improve outcomes.

Family Coaching

Families face challenges living with or around an addictive illness.  Because addiction is a chronic disease, even when the patient enters treatment, the illness may be characterized by alternating periods of remission and recurrence of acute symptoms. Coaching is solution and action oriented and provides information, suggestions, and resources for families as they deal with addictive illness.

Coaching can provide:

  • Guidance in daily living following a course of treatment

  • Communication skills and rehearsal for difficult situations

  • Referrals for other services
